Wet Pan Mill for Small-Scale Gold Ore Grinding
A wet pan mill uses heavy rollers in a pan to grind crushed ore with water. Zhengzhou Zhongji Machinery manufactures wet pan mills for evaluation in small-scale rock gold projects, particularly where gravity concentration is being considered.
It is a grinding machine, not a gold recovery guarantee. Confirm the ore and downstream process before choosing a model.
Review Your Grinding DutyWhere a Wet Pan Mill Fits
Consider this option for crushed rock gold ore in a smaller, gravity-focused grinding arrangement. A jaw crusher may prepare larger feed, with further crushing where needed to meet the mill's confirmed feed requirement.
Ore hardness, abrasiveness, clay and gold liberation all affect suitability. A wet pan mill is not a universal replacement for a ball mill, and the ore name alone cannot establish the right route.
How It Works
A motor and transmission drive the rollers around the pan. Repeated rolling pressure and friction reduce the size of the crushed ore while water supports wet grinding. The slurry then passes to the confirmed downstream circuit.
Feed preparation, water addition and grinding conditions must be checked against the target fineness. The mill itself does not establish gold recovery.
Selected Model References
Market references, not confirmed Zhongji specifications. These common model designations provide a starting point for inquiry. Zhongji must confirm the actual dimensions, motor and duty in the project quotation.
| Model reference | Nominal roller diameter | Indicative motor power |
|---|---|---|
| 1200 | 1,200 mm | 7.5 kW |
| 1400 | 1,400 mm | 15 kW |
| 1500 | 1,500 mm | 22 kW |
| 1600 | 1,600 mm | 30 kW |

No fixed throughput is stated. Confirm capacity, maximum feed size and target fineness together for the actual ore; supplier capacity figures are not interchangeable.
Wet Pan Mill vs Ball Mill
| Selection point | Wet pan mill | Ball mill |
|---|---|---|
| Grinding action | Rollers press and grind ore in a pan. | Grinding media tumble in a rotating drum. |
| Route to evaluate | A simpler wet grinding arrangement for smaller gravity-focused projects. | A milling circuit that can include classification and coarse return. |
| Decision basis | Ore response, required output and practical operating conditions. | Ore response, mill sizing and the complete circuit design. |
Compare the Ball Mill option when reviewing capacity, fineness and circuit control. Neither machine choice alone guarantees liberation or recovery. For the whole-project decision, see the wet pan mill vs ball mill buyer guide.
Typical Small-Scale Gold Route
- Crushing
- Wet grinding
- Gravity concentration
- Further recovery as confirmed
This is a conceptual route, not a completed project. Ore testwork must establish whether gravity concentration is suitable and what further recovery is needed. This page does not recommend adding mercury to the mill.
See the Gold Ore Crushing & Grinding Preparation Solution for the broader preparation route.
