Gold Ore Project Preparation

How to Prepare a Gold Ore Crushing and Grinding Requirement

See how crushing, fine crushing, grinding and classification prepare gold ore for a confirmed downstream process.

Conceptual gold ore crushing grinding and classification process model
Conceptual process model only. Final equipment and the recovery stage depend on ore data and testing.
What information is needed before equipment selection?

Start With Evidence

Describe the ore before naming the machines.

If a value is unknown, mark it as unknown. That is more useful than treating an estimate as measured project data.

01Ore information

Provide representative photos, the source of the ore and any available assay, mineralogical report or process test. Explain how the sample was taken.

02Feed condition

State the maximum lump size, typical feed range, moisture and clay content. Confirm whether the material reaches the plant as run-of-mine ore or pre-crushed feed.

03Grinding requirement

Give the required mill feed size and target product fineness. The grinding target should come from the needs of the confirmed downstream process.

04Operating duty

State the required hourly or daily throughput, planned working hours and whether the feed is expected to be continuous.

05Process and water

Identify the planned downstream process, whether grinding is wet or dry, and the available water condition. Attach test information where available.

06Site and power

Confirm the project country, voltage, frequency, site space, access limits and installation responsibility.

Quick Process

Crushing and grinding prepare the ore; they do not confirm recovery.

01

Primary crushing

Maximum feed size, hardness, abrasiveness and moisture affect the first-stage crusher discussion.

02

Fine crushing

The mill feed target and ore behavior determine whether another crushing stage and screening need evaluation.

03

Grinding

Feed size, target fineness, throughput and wet or dry operation are needed to discuss a ball mill.

04

Classification

The selected circuit must control the grinding product before it enters the verified downstream process.

Important: no recovery rate, concentrate grade or final circuit should be promised from the ore name alone. Representative testing is required.

Selection Questions

What changes the equipment discussion?

The same daily tonnage can require a different configuration when feed size, fineness, working hours or ore behavior changes.

  1. 01

    What must the crusher deliver?

Confirm the maximum raw feed and the size that should enter the mill. Review the jaw crusher selection factors when primary crushing is required.

  2. 02

    What must the mill deliver?

State the target fineness, capacity and wet or dry process. The ball mill knowledge hub explains the information needed for model selection.

  3. 03

    What is already confirmed?

Separate laboratory findings and required targets from assumptions. If the downstream recovery route is not confirmed, say so before requesting a final configuration.

  4. 04

What is included in the supply?

Ask for a clear boundary covering machines, motors, controls, structures, spare parts, foundations, installation and commissioning responsibilities.

Common Buyer Questions

Two points to confirm early.

Can equipment be selected from the words “gold ore” alone?

No. Ore hardness, feed size, required mill feed, target fineness, capacity and downstream test information are needed first.

Can crushing and grinding equipment guarantee gold recovery?

No. These stages prepare material for a downstream process. Recovery and concentrate results depend on representative ore testing and the confirmed recovery circuit.
